Instructions
WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND EYEWEAR!
Carefully stir lye into distilled water. Let sit in a safe place to cool until 100-110 F. This could take 30-40 minutes.
Melt the lard, then combine with cooled lye mixture.
Stir by hand or with an immersion blender until the mixture reaches "trace."
Stir in essential oils if desired.
Pour soap batter into a mold. Immediately cover with parchment/wax paper and a towel to help with condensation and ash.
Let molds rest for 1-2 days or until soap is easily removed.
Slice into bars.
Let soap cure around 4 weeks before using.
