100% Tallow Bar Soap

Use all parts of your animal! This bar soap can be made from 100% lard as well and is super nice to use.

Equipment

  • Soap mold
  • Parchment paper

Ingredients
  

  • 8.75 ounces distilled water 248 g
  • 3.7 ounces sodium hydroxide (lye) 106 g
  • 28 ounces tallow 794 g
  • .88 ounces lavender essential oil (optional) 25 g
  • .28 ounces tea tree essential oil (optional) 8 g

Instructions
 

  • WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND EYEWEAR!
  • Carefully stir lye into distilled water. Let sit in a safe place to cool until 100-110 F. This could take 30-40 minutes.
  • Melt the lard, then combine with cooled lye mixture.
  • Stir by hand or with an immersion blender until the mixture reaches "trace."
  • Stir in essential oils if desired.
  • Pour soap batter into a mold. Immediately cover with parchment/wax paper and a towel to help with condensation and ash.
  • Let molds rest for 1-2 days or until soap is easily removed.
  • Slice into bars.
  • Let soap cure around 4 weeks before using.

Notes

  • Feel free to use fun moulds.
