Egg nog is the flavour of winter, so why not turn it into ice cream? Homemade egg nog with homemade Irish cream and you have a delight!
This is a super easy recipe for your holiday gatherings! I know it might not exactly sound quick when it's all from scratch, but it's so easy and so good. You can make this with or without liquor, just make sure you label well!
I love to start with all homemade ingredients - the egg nog and the Irish Cream! But you can 100% use ingredients from the store, I always say do what works for you. I just prefer to make all of our treats at home so I know what goes into them. I also feel like the boost of farm fresh milk and eggs helps to balance out the sugar some.
This recipe is based off my Raw Egg Nog recipe. I then add some holiday spirit with maple syrup sweetened Homemade Irish Cream. You can also make more of a "regular" version of Irish Cream with sweetened condensed milk and/or use a can in this recipe to make it non-alcoholic.
Key Ingredients
Eggs - Always use super fresh eggs, and ones you know where they come from. The backyard or your neighbor is perfect.
Dairy - We will combine whole milk with the Irish Cream, which if you do homemade, is made from half and half. Feel free to play with your fat levels here for your perfect ice cream texture.
Irish Cream - Optional, but I love to make this for the adults! It feels even more decadent than homemade hard egg nog.
Sugar - You can't make ice cream without sugar! I prefer to use organic cane sugar.

- Serve with mini candy canes, crushed mints, or even mini chocolate chips.
FAQs
I have full confidence in using eggs and milk from my own backyard. I'd also use from friends or farmsteads I trust. The benefits of consuming these ingredients are well worth it to me and my family. If you don't have access to those ingredients, you can look for pasteurized eggs at the store and use milk, egg nog, etc from the store as well.
You can use a cup of Irish Cream (homemade or not) or substitute in sweetened condensed milk. I have yet to make my own can of milk yet, but it would definitely be easy to do. Otherwise use from the store.
I highly recommend buying whole nutmeg and using that in all of your recipes. Whole spices retain their freshness much longer! It's super easy to use your typical kitchen equipment to grate it, too. Use the smallest holes on a box grater or a microplane zester. I never measure, either - just grate right into my recipe!
