We love to hunt here, as well as barter with others. This means we often have a lot of ground wild game on hand. It's super easy to use it - you can almost always just treat it as you would any red meat!
The one exception is burgers, in my opinion, but I have a recipe coming for you on that!
My favourite thing to do is mix up my own seasonings. Did you know there's really no need to buy packets of things like taco seasoning? Instead, customize your own blend and always keep a large jar on hand. This makes it super easy to do bulk cooking sessions like having taco meat all ready to go.
Family Favourites with Ground Wild Game
Nothing beats chili. Especially if you have family members that are new to tasting wild game, chili is a great introduction. The beans and tomatoes and your best spices can hide any sort of gamey-ness. I also love to make meatballs for easy meals. Serve some now and freeze the rest for later.
Worldly Ground Venison Cuisine
Take your shepherd's pie and make it into hunter's pie. We hunt, not herd, so this is a fun meal I grew up on. It also reheats super well after being frozen, making it perfect to stash in the freezer for busy days or when you want to share a meal with someone that needs that little bit of extra care.
Add an Asian flair with your favorite umami condiments and you're ready to go with rice and veg.
Venison Soups
I love a comforting bowl of soup when it gets cold. Nothing beats the smell of fresh sourdough waiting in the wings to lap up every last drop.
What are your ideas for using ground meat? It's a really economical protein choice because you are simply using up everything that's left when you are done with butchering. I also promise these all turn out well with beef or poultry if that's more your speed.
